Against bacterial infections of the gastro-intestinal tract.

  • Contains an antibiotic of the penicillin group.
  • Effective against gram positive and gram negative pathogens (eg. Salmonella).
  • Especially well tolerated by young pigeons.
  • Available in powder form for treatment via the drinking water and in capsule form for treatment of individual birds.

 

1 capsule contains:

Ampicillin 3H20          57.75 mg  (equivalent to 50 mg Ampicillin)

In general bacterial infections For 5 days

1 sachet per 1 litre of drinking water (20 pigeons) or 1 capsule per pigeon per day

12 sachets are sufficient for 12 litres of drinking water or
100 capsules are sufficient for 100 pigeons
       
In Salmonella infections For 10 days,
see treatment plan Salmonellosis
2 sachets per 1 litre of drinking water (20 pigeons) or 2 capsules per pigeon per day 12 sachets are sufficient for 6 litres of drinking water or
100 capsules are sufficient for 50 pigeons

 

If no improvement is observed after 3 days of treatment it is recommended to continue the treatment with ampicillin-t capsules only after having examined the sensitivity of the germs by making an antibiogram, if necessary the method of therapy has to be changed.

 

Contra-Indications

  • Disorders of the kidney functions and presence of penicillase forming germs as well as super sensitivity to ß-lactamantibiotics. Application during the first 12 to 24 days of life is not recommended
  • Do not use in food-producing animals.

Side effects

The use of penicillines and hence of ampicillin can induce allergic reactions. 

Interactions with other preparations

There is a potential antagonism of penicillines and chemotherapeutics with immediate bacteriostatic action e.g. Chloramphenicol, Tetracyclins, Macrolides.

  • Store in a cool and dry place.
  • Do not store above +25°C / +77°F
  • Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
