Treatment and prevention of trichomoniasis (Trichomonas columbae, canker) and hexamitiasis.

  • controls trichomonas effectively.
  • controls hexamita columbae effectively.
  • available in powder form for treatment via the drinking water, and in capsule form for treatment of individual birds.

1 sachet (2.5g powder) contains:

Dimetridazole 1000mg

  • If trichomonas are identified or symptoms of canker are visible, all pigeons in the flock should be treated at the same time with chevicol
For 6 days, see treatment plan Trichomoniasis
  • To parent birds (very important!) after laying eggs but before hatching
For 6 days, see treatment plan Trichomoniasis
  • To racing pigeons; 10 days before the racing season begins
    For 3 days
  • To racing pigeons; during the racing season
For 1 day every three weeks, 48 hours after the return from the race
  • As a preventive treatment for all other pigeons:
For 3 days, every 3 to 4 months
  • In Hexamitiasis
For 6 days, see treatment plan Hexamitiasis

If affected birds are identified, all pigeons in the loft should be treated

1 sachet (2.5g) in 2 litres of drinking water (daily requirement for 40 pigeons) per day

Do not administer more than one capsule per pigeon per day. Overdose leads to a reversible loss of balance and coordination. If balance problems are seen in the pigeon, stop Chevicol treatment immediately, and administer Liviferm at the dose of 1 capsule per pigeon for 3 days, and the balance problems shall abate.

In severely affected animals the caseous deposits in the throat should be moistened with the above mentioned solution, and 3-5 ml be given directly into the crop.

Do not provide bath water during the treatment period.

Prepare fresh solution daily. If the water intake in diseased birds is strongly reduced, the application should be changed to a capsule application or to a parenteral therapy.

To control recurrent trichomonas infection in pigeons, preventive treatment should generally be carried out twice a year at an interval of 3 to 4 months. This treatment is given to all pigeons in the loft. Duration of application: 3 days

  • Do not use in food-producing animals.
  • Store in a cool and dry place.
  • Keep out of the reach and sight of children.

If increased drinking water is required during treatment (e.g. in the hatching period or hot weather), do not dilute medicated water. Instead, provide fresh water after the medicated water is finished.
